Crack Interview

Big ups to Crack for doing this

Who are you and where you from?

Ghostface Cracker from Cork

How long have you been writing and how did you get into it?

I’ve been writing around 9 years(ish), I remember seeing my first piece of graff (big chrome dub) when I was a kid and was so impressed that someone could write their name so big and everyone would see it, I remember wanting to copy it. Growing up I used to always go around breaking shit and messing on building sites and writing my nickname on things, robbed cans of shit paint and road marking paint and it went from there. I was this shit

Who do you paint with and what crews do you rep?

Euros is my partner in crime mostly at the moment…..there’s definitely a want in him though, the poor fella needs constant supervision. I get to paint with pretty much all of my crew members at some point throughout the year cos were spread out around the place. I rep 2 crews RTM and EGS
Who are the writers that inspire you daily?
I’m lucky, the writers that inspire me on a day to day basis are the ones I spend my time with, I’m in a crew with guys like Rask, Sums and Dusto….the talent and experience they have is retarded! My two west boys Baqsr and Crap push me constantly to try new shit too cos they’re art fags. Euros, Deks, Esko and Crept are forever making me feel like I need to paint more and play catch up!
Internationally, WildBoys, Kem5, Dems, Twist, Saber, Sure and Faust and Mother keep me inspired.
5 favourite things you have painted and why.
1. The tribute piece I did for my friend Aoife who died last year is by far the most important piece I’ve ever painted, it meant a lot to get that done.
2. Dropped this in Galway with most of the crew early this year, I had a lot of time, paint and space to work with on this one…..and a huge hangover.
3.I love this piece, its big and chrome and one for the boys! RTM!
4. Dundalk 07 wall…..good times, dope wall
5. This chrome is a recent favourite….Baqsr and Crap have been pushing me to switch up styles lately so I based this on one of my handstyles and had a lot of fun painting it
5 favourite thing your favourite writers have painted and why.
1. Saber is probably my favourite writer, any writer who isn’t impressed by this should pack it in!
2. This wall is the fucking money, I’m obsessed with handstyles…it doesn’t get any better, these two are kings!
3. Kem is forever dropping shit hot stomper chromes! I could look at these all day
4. This tribute to Dare by Mad C is a favourite, fitting tribute for a King
5. As I said earlier….I’m obsessed with handstyles, Sure might be gone but his partner in crime Faust is keeping him up constantly with outrageously fresh handstyles
How does the Cork scene compare to the Dublin scene?
I think the scene in Cork has less bullshit than the Dublin scene. There are a lot of toys who seem to paint for a few months and act like cunts up there whereas we’ve been lucky, the young writers in Cork have generally had a lot of respect for the scene. I think the Dublin scene probably has a healthier amount of competition too tho between writers.
What do you like to do when your not painting?
Hang out with the crew, get drunk and embarass myself, scribble on things, train and try not to do anything too bad to piss my girlfriend off
What music are you listening to at the moment?
Action Bronson, he killed his live show in Dublin
SertOne
Danny Brown
Any crazy shit happened to you while you were painting?
Been chased a few times, usual shit with pikeys and junkies. Me and Dex once painted a junkies clothes chrome which was fun. Had a drunken mission one night where someone was nearly killed by a train, that was pretty hectic. Crap introduced me to ‘shitting in a field’ whilst being out painting earlier this year, that wasn’t crazy….just windy.
Favourite place you have painted? And where would you most like to paint?
Painting the peace line was pretty surreal in Belfast.
Also, getting up in South America was pretty cool.
Whats a typical weekend for you?
Finish work on Friday, boozing usually follows.
Saturday and Sunday are usually a mixture of gym, watching matches, pints, painting, hanging out with the crew and my girlfriend. I live a very ordinary life to be honest.
Bombing or piecing and why?
These days I’m about piecing, Iv gone pretty soft in my old age and its good to spend time with the crew doing walls and catching up. I enjoy piecing but to be honest it’ll never replace the fun of bombing, and if I had to pick one thing and never do the others again, I’d pick handstyles every time.
Whats your favourite blogs and websites to check out?
I like keeping an eye on the Irish blogs, darknightscitylightslost in the moodgetnlooseeiresol
I spend an unhealthy amount of time on Football365  during work and in the evenings I spend at least 6 hours a night on Chatroulette rying to find Bet’s mom and tell her get off the internet!
Whats your plans for the future?
Paint more, keep pushing shit, try not to get fired and travel a lot more
I also keep telling everyone I’m going to stop drinking and disgracing myself but I doubt that’ll change.
Any advice to younger writers who are only starting?
As much as its important to be your own writer and make a name for yourself, its just as important to have respect for the scene. Don’t get caught up in your own hype, at the end of the day, its just graffiti.
Finally any last words or shout outs?
ACAB! Shouts to RTM and EGS! Family First! Rest in Peace MCA! Keep up the good work on the blog! Smoke Crack RTM EGS!!
